CHANDIGARH: Lieutenant General I S Ghuman took over as the chief of staff of Western Command (WC) on Monday. He has relieved Lt Gen Gurdeep Singh who has retired.
Lt Gen Ghuman was commissioned into The Brigade of Guards in 1981. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakvasla, and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, he has a distinguished career spanning more than 35 years during which he tenanted various command, staff and instructional appointments in various commands.
Lt Gen Ghuman successfully commanded an infantry battalion during Operation Parakram in 2002.
He also commanded an infantry brigade and an infantry division with varied operational roles. He has attended various prestigious professional courses.
