The CID team that was probing the suicide of Karnataka DSP M K Ganapathi (51) had found that the officer was aware that the state police chief had sought information regarding Ganapathi’s role in an alleged corruption case from the Bengaluru city police commissioner.
Police suspect that Ganapathi, who was promoted as DSP in April, grew apprehensive regarding his position after coming to know of the letter.
CID sources said that state police chief Om Prakash wrote a letter dated June 24, 2016, to Bengaluru city police commissioner N S Megharikh. Prakash sought information on status of the departmental inquiry against Ganapathi and two other officers of Madiwala police station.
“The departmental inquiry proved that three police inspectors, including Ganapathi, were responsible for a mismatch between stolen and recovered property for several years at the police station. The police headquarters had sought documents related to the issue. However, Ganapathi committed suicide before the documents reached the head office,” a CID officer said.
