Bindu P Sudhakar smells success in life with a scent of jackfruit

Ms Sudhakar now makes an average daily profit of Rs 500 by selling jackfruit products

KOZHIKODE: Bindu P. Sudhakar, 45, is hope personified now - a dramatic shift from the depressed woman she was three months back. The Kumaly native wholeheartedly thanks the jackfruit, which helped her to rebuild her family financially broken after her husband Vasu Kuttan met with an accident. Ms Sudhakar now makes an average daily profit of Rs 500 by selling jackfruit products in nearby shops and bakeries with an initial investment of just Rs 1,000.

Slowly the family, which comprises her two daughters, is limping back to normalcy. Mr Kuttan, a private bus conductor, met with an accident 15 months ago and was on a walker since then. The mishap of the sole breadwinner affected the education of their elder daughter pursuing post-graduation and the younger one, a Plus-One student. A friend’s invitation on jackfruit classes reached her to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Alappuzha and underwent three-day training on various products of jackfruit.

“In the beginning, I was nervous as I have no money to invest. But I tried to make products manually in my household with buying only a potato chopper. My ‘Chakka cutlet’ and ‘Chakka varuthathu’ soon conquered the local market, and now I am confident,” she says. Her half a dozen products are now being sold in Chakkuvellam, Anakkara and Kumily areas.
