Sikh students body seeks justice for ’84 riot victims

AMRITSAR: To hold the perpetrators of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots accountable, the Sikh Students Federation today called for abstaining from hoisting the flag on Independence Day and decided to launch a campaign for the purpose.

Amritsar, August 1

To hold the perpetrators of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots accountable, the Sikh Students Federation today called for abstaining from hoisting the flag on Independence Day and decided to launch a campaign for the purpose.

President of the Federation Karnail Singh Peermohammad said the Constitution itself discriminates against Sikhs and declares the community as Hindus leaving not much scope for justice. He also announced his support for an online petition seeking President Obama’s nod. The online petition has been taken up by the US-based rights group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ). Peermohammad said his organisation will hold a signature camp at Darbar Sahib on August 5 after paying obeisance at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. — TNS
