Kolkata: The West Bengal government has sought help from scientists to crack down on the menace of rats boring deep holes at the base of a 380 metre-long key flyover in the eastern metropolis, an official said. Built in 1963, the Dhakuria flyover in south Kolkata is one of the oldest concrete flyovers in the city. "Rats are again boring holes. We have sought help from scientists. Nowadays the bridges are constructed on pillars but earlier they used to be on a support above soil," said Firhad Hakim, state minister. IANS

RD Burman ‘hated’ composing disco songs

New Delhi: Legendary musician RD Burman, whose cabaret tunes still reverberate at pubs and discotheques, actually hated composing such songs and even believed that the genre was just a "passing fad", says a new book. And when he first won the Filmfare Award for Best Music Director, an honour that came to him after two decades of hard work, excitement evaded him because it was not for any of his raga-based song, the ones he held dearer to him. The revelations are made in 'RD Burmania : Panchamemoirs' authored by Chaitanya Padukone. PTI
