BELAGAVI: Unhygienic environment, leaky roof and rat menace at the government Kannada primary school at Samarth Nagar here has impacted the attendance of students. The school has 45 students from class 1 to class 5, but only one classroom.
There are only two teachers in the school which was granted permission in 2007. After almost a decade, the authorities have failed to provide the school its own building.
Parents are scared to send their kids to this school during the rainy season as the entire premises turns muddy and slippery. This has been the condition since it opened.
After heavy rain, drain water from the surrounding area overflows to the approach road. The rented building is in a dilapidated condition and could collapse anytime. The rat menace has caused fear among the kids. The school announces a holiday when it rains heavily.
Sunita Narasannavar, head teacher, said, "Due to the condition of school, parents don't send their kids here. The rat menace is a big pain. The school's problems have been brought to the notice of the education officer."
Leelavati Hiremath, block education officer, said, "I'm aware of the situation and the school will be shifted to a nearby building. A proposal has also been sent for sanctioning a permanent building."
