A Bridesmaid No More

Mystic Master | Singapore Turf Club

Mystic Master (Aus) (Snippetson {Aus}), runner-up on four of his five runs this season, shed his bridesmaid status in the best possible manner to scoop this valuable prize on the eve of his third birthday.

Runner-up to the talented Jupiter Gold (Aus) (Congrats) in the Magic Millions National Yearling Sales S., a conditions test over 1100 metres of the Polytrack May 22, the Queenslander narrowly missed when trying the turf for the first time over course and trip June 17 and was just touched off in a similar spot July 8 after passing on the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe on the same program.

Given his chance here as the third-longest shot in an eight-horse field, Mystic Master jumped alertly and took up a spot just to the outside of the pacesetting Caorunn as Skywalk (NZ) (Battle Paint) fell into the box seat from third. Asked to tackle the front-runner turning for home, Mystic Master gradually worked his way to the front and stayed on best of all for the victory. Skywalk, a bit short of room inside the furlong, finished a willing second ahead of Caorunn (NZ) (Showcasing {GB}) in third. Lim's Racer (NZ) (Red Giant), the 3-1 third choice, went up in the air at the start and was never in touch thereafter.

“He's a horse who always gives his best. I'm glad he's finally won, and it's a bonus he's won the cup race,” said winning trainer Alwin Tan. “I believe the sting out of the ground helped him today. He's also a horse who doesn't like to be crowded and today, he had a clear run to the line. That's why I decided to avoid the Aushorse race as it was a big field of 14 runners. When I saw only a few entries for this one, I thought he had a better chance, but I didn't expect him to beat those very good 2-year-olds like that. He's a horse with good potential and he's also very versatile as he can handle both turf and Polytrack.”

Mystic Master is out of a half-sister to G1SW Rostova (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}), whose foal of 2015 is a colt by the all-conquering Frankel (GB). This is also the female family of GSW Born Priceless (Aus).
