Jamjodhpur mamlatdar, deputy held in graft case

A mamlatdar and deputy mamlatdar of Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar district were arrested by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths for seeking bribe of Rs 1.22 lakh to give a positive opinion on renewal of bail of the complainant.

Rajkot: A mamlatdar and deputy mamlatdar of Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar district were arrested by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths for seeking bribe of Rs 1.22 lakh to give a positive opinion on renewal of bail of the complainant.
Kalyanji Joshi (57), mamlatdar, Jamjodhpur and his deputy mamlatdar Kantilal Taral (51) were arrested from the mamlatdar office in Jamjodhpur.
The duo had sent their close aide Babupuri Goswami, a postman, who acted as a middle man and went to collect the cash from the complainant. According to case details, Joshi and Taral had demanded Rs 1 lakh and Rs 20,000, respectively for giving a positive opinion with regards renewal of bail term of the complainant. Goswami, who acted as a middle man had also demanded Rs 2,000 as his share of the deal.
The complainant approached the ACB in Jamnagar and lodged an FIR against the trio. Based on his complaint, the officials of ACB Jamnagar and Rajkot set up a trap and caught the accused from Jamjodhpur mamlatdar office on Saturday. The entire operation was led by ACB Rajkot police inspector H P Doshi.
