The customised cancer screening and awareness bus of the All India Marwari Yuva Mach arrived in the city for a three-day campaign on Saturday.
The screening camp is organised in the 40-foot-long bus which has facilities to check blood sugar, BMI, complete blood count, mammography, X-ray, CA125 blood test for ovarian cancer, Prostate-Specific Antigen and oral cancer. It will function from from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., screening around 250 persons a day.
Naveen Tholiya, president of the Puducherry chapter of Marwari Yuva Manch, said the campaign aims at helping patients identify the disease at an early stage and seeking appropriate medical care. The mobile clinic is the first of its kind in Puducherry.
The mobile camp has already covered several areas in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
A total of 20,000 persons have been screened in Telangana and out of them 271 diagnosed with cancer in the initial stage.
The mobile screening is meant to provide access to quality diagnostic facility to patients who cannot afford the high cost of tests, he said.
