Parents booked for assaulting daughter
Nagpur: Forty-year-old Jasbir Renu and his wife Kapinder (42), along with their six relatives, were booked by Lakadganj police on Friday for rioting and threatening to their daughter Simran (23) and son in law Nikhil Chauhan (29). Simran got married to Nikhil, a civil engineer, on May 23 against her parents’ consent. The couple started living at Babulban near Garoba Maidan. On Friday, when Simaran and Nikhil were present at their place along with his parents, Simran’s parents barged into the place with a few others.
As Nikhil stopped them, they abused and threatened the couple. Nikhil and Simaran approached Lakadganj police station and lodged a complaint against Simran’s parents. Meanwhile, the parents too reached the police station and pretended that they had come to terms with the marriage. But as they all exited the police station, those accompaying Simran’s parents again started forcing Simran to come along with them. Simran refused to go, resulting in the parents and the others creating a ruckus.
MCOCA accused die in jail
Dinesh Nagdive, facing charges under Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), passed away at Government Medical College and Hospital on Friday. He was referred to GMCH from Nagpur jail where he was lodged since May 30. Nagdive was arrested by Mankapur police for his alleged role as a mastermind of a gang of blackmailers. Nagdive was earlier booked in similar cases too. Nagdive was admitted at GMCH on July 13. He had suffered brain haemorrhage following high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Slain woman Naxalite identified
Nagpur: Gadchiroli police have declared the name of slain woman Naxalite as Indira Mesi, 30, a native of Kasansoor, who was killed during an encounter at Bhimpur forest in Fulbodi Gatta of Dhanora tehsil on Thursday. She was identified with the help of surrendered Naxalites and police records. A press release of Gadchiroli police claimed Mesi was a part of platoon 3 formation. She had joined the rebel movement in 2012. Naxal sources too claimed that Mesi was present at the Naxal camp which was razed by police. A Bharmar rifle was recovered from the forest where the exchange of fire took place along with 25 rucksacks and other materials.
Dreaded goon booked under MPDA
Ashwin Lihitkar, 21, has been arrested by crime branch under Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) on Friday. He has several offences registered against him in the past such as threats, assaults and similar serious offences. Police had earlier invoked preventive actions against Lihitkar on several occasions as well.
