Kei Nishikori advanced to the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto with a straight-sets win over Stan Wawrinka.

The 26-year-old Japanese impressively overcame falling 5-2 down in the opening set to win 7-6 (8/6), 6-1. He progresses to his third ATP Masters 1000 final, where he will face the winner of the other semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils.

Former French and Australian Open champion Wawrinka, 31, had been the favourite to win and began in relatively routine fashion.

He produced three unforced errors throughout the first set, in which he wasted four set points as his collapse began.

The Swiss second seed's loss of form continued in the second. Nishikori capitalised to build a convincing 5-0 lead before securing victory and his place in Sunday's final.
