Chhapra: All the 1425 students admitted to 20 different Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Vidyalayas of the district would be imparted training in martial art (karate) from August 1. About 40 students of these schools would be trained as instructor.
Saran district PRO A K Choudhary said the directive came from Saran DM Deepak Anand on Friday during a review meeting of the education department.
He also directed the officials to get open a bank account of every student of these residential schools. Only 50% students have bank accounts so far.
The district programme officer (DPO) of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) said out of 20 such schools, 17 are maintained by the department while remaining four are under NGOs.
"These schools, with capacity of 100 seats, are attached with local middle schools. The students are covered under group insurance scheme and are paid Rs1200 as scholarship annually," said Choudhary.
The DM further directed the DPO to get all those students, who have been left out of the mainstream so far, enrolled in schools. It may be known that these schools admit only students from SC/ST, OBC, BPL and minority community.

During review, it also came to light that 60 schools of the district are not getting midday meal (MDM) facility.
Explaining the reasons behind this, the DPO of MDM scheme alleged the late supply of rice bags and less interest shown by the assistant godown managers.
The DM directed the DPO to take immediate action in this matter.
