Like many politicians these days, Bhartiya Janata Party national spokesperson and Member of Parliament Meenakshi Lekhi is also an active tweeter. Recently she tweeted a picture of herself sharing the stage with journalist Barkha Dutt while attending an event in Delhi. “Defence Colony gets its wall of Honour, Proud moment for the residents and the country,” she tweeted.
Apparently, the event was funded by South Municipal Corporation of Delhi and people on social media couldn’t help but ask her why she is sharing the stage with senior Barkha Dutt. She responded by saying, “Money for the project came from South MCD, the elected councillor is from Congress”. When another user asked the same question, here’s what she said.
“Idiot I am in my constituency with my voters,” she tweeted.
Her language has become a talking point on Twitter as people question as to how can a politician of her stature use such language publicly on an open platform. While some accused her of abusing on Twitter, some just made fun of her and some just equated her with Arvind Kejriwal’s jibe at PM Narendra Modi when he called him a “coward and a psychopath”.
@M_Lekhi @avi4605 @sharadbhattce @BJP4India she’s your constituent. Not your voter. And you have abused a BJP supporter. Great going.
