Cities around the world where beer is the cheapest
For many, there’s nothing like a refreshing glass of beer on a warm summer afternoon. But how much do you really have to spend on that delicious beverage? Well, it all depends on where in the world you’re consuming it.
GoEuro, a travel comparison site, released their 2016 beer price index comparing the average price of local beers between bars and supermarkets in 70 different cities throughout the world, as well as the overall average price of beer in the city.
The United States doesn’t even break the top 30 (Los Angeles is the first U.S. city on the list at number 34, followed by Boston at 36), so you would have to travel pretty far to get your hand on any of the most affordable ice cold brewskies.
To compile supermarket prices for a beer, GoEuro looked at the cost of several of the most popular international brands in each area, as well as a major local brand, and averaged the price. The pricing of a beer from a bar was calculated using the average price of local and imported draught beer in several major worldwide hotel chains. (Note: Beer glass volumes for this study were measured in centiliters — 33cl is about 11 ounces.) It’s also important to mention that the prices were all converted to U.S. dollars using the Bloomberg exchange rate on April 8, 2016.
If you were to hit up one of these cities and grab a cold one, it’s a good idea to travel (and drink) responsibly. You can set a budget before you go. And, if you opt to use a credit card to pay for your frothy adventure, it’s important to avoid racking up credit card debt.
So, grab your stein and peruse these 15 cities where you can get a beer for less. Cheers!
