KANPUR: The city received 30 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours which caused waterlogging in many localities. People had to wade through knee-deep water. The showers which started on Thursday evening, continued for the entire day on Friday and stopped at 7pm.
There was no sun throughout the day and the day temperature stood below 30 degrees Celsius.
Heavy showers lashed the city on Thursday evening. The Met department of CSA University predicted more showers in the next three days. Medium to heavy rainfall have been predicted. In July so far, more than 400 mm of rain had already lashed the city.
The people faced waterlogging and problem of choked drains. Many roads turned into mini-canals and localities became islands due to choked sewer lines and drains.
The showers started around 7pm on Thursday continued till 7pm on Friday.
There was waterlogging under the Juhi railway bridge. The commuter were forced to change their route and diverted towards Govindnagar and Babupurwa.
Roads in Govindnagar near Chawla market and Vidyarthi market turned into mini-canals. There was waterlogging at Barra, Karrahi, World Bank Colony, Naubasta, Yashoda Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Cycle market, Deep Cinema road in Saket Nagar, K-block in Kidwai Nagar and adjoining areas.
Fazalganj crossing and Govind Nagar railway bridge link road was plunged under water. Lanes and by-lanes at Kabari market, Gadarian Purwa, Shastri Nagar were under one to two feet. The residents of these localities faced difficulties in moving out. Waterlogging also took place near Hydel power house on VIP road. Entrance to Jal Sansthan, KDA and KMC offices also turned into pools.
