Khambhaliya gets 198mm rain in 8 hours

After a long break rains arrived in Saurashtra with most towns of the region recording light to moderate showers since Thursday night.

RAJKOT: After a long break rains arrived in Saurashtra with most towns of the region recording light to moderate showers since Thursday night. Khambhaliya in Devbhoomi Dwarka registered the highest rainfall of 198 mm in just eight hours.
Heavy downpour caused water-logging in number of areas of Khambhaliya town where people were seen wading through knee deep waters.
However, there were no casualties reported from the town.
Town that received significant rainfall on Friday inlcude Palitana (65mm), Visavadar (61mm), Jesar (48mm), Dhrol (39) and Sutrapada (37mm). Light showers were reported from almost all districts of Saurashtra.
The weather department forecast Light to moderate rain with thundershowers at many places in the districts of Gujarat region and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli and at a few places in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch.
They said that Thursday's upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat now lies over Saurashtra region, which is likely to bring rains in the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, sowing in the state picked up with good rains during July. The sowing activity which was around 80% less as compared to 2015, has now crossed the last year figures. This year till July 26, sowing was completed in 57.01 lakh hectares as against 54.79 lakh hectares during the same period last year.
