Ranchi: Police arrested a gang of criminals that looted Rs 10 lakh from a bank manager on July 18 at Ratu road in coordinated raids on Friday. Police discovered that the gang was part of an extended network of criminals who were wanted for multiple cases of loot in the town.
Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi said a special team was constituted under the leadership of DSP headquarter-II after the Ratu road loot case was reported.
The accused have been identified as Benjamin Tirkey alias Moris Benjamin Tirkey, resident of Nagri in rural Ranchi, Rajesh Prasad Srivastava of Ramgarh and Narendra Singh alias Chauhan of Sukhdeonagar. "We managed to seize Rs 1.30 lakh from Benjamin's possession. We also seized Rs 1.20 lakh from Rajesh and Rs 86,000 from Narendra," said Dwivedi. Police have also seized a car from their possession. Brahamanand Pandey, Allahabad bank manager, was travelling to Ratu road with Rs 10 lakh after withdrawing the amount from a bank in Lalpur when motorcycle-borne criminals intercepted his car and looted him at gunpoint.
"We went through CCTV footage from the bank and from the camera positioned near the site of the incident," said an officer on condition of anonymity. "He (Benjamin) came clean about his involvement in the crime and named his accomplices," the SSP said.
The gang has been involved other loot cases, including one on January 4 on Ratu road, in Sukhdeo Nagar on July 8 and another case in Doranda on February 22. "The group has been active for more than six months in the district," said an officer.
