Over a month after she first accused her husband and industrialist Jaidev Shroff of stealing her jewellery, Poonam Bhagat finally managed to get the complaint formalised in a theft FIR yesterday. This is only the latest in a slew of allegations the estranged couple has hurled at each other in their bitter divorce battle.

mid-day had reported earlier that Poonam had entered her estranged husband's home on June 22 to collect her jewellery, clothes, passport and other documents.
A source present in the house had told mid-day, "Bhagat arrived at Jaidev's Pali Hill house at 11 am with her daughter and others. However, she walked out within 15 minutes without taking anything, and claiming that her jewellery was missing."

She went to the police station the same day to file a complaint. Then Poonam approached the Bandra Magistrate court, which ruled in her favour and directed the Khar Police to file an FIR against Jaidev.
In her complaint, she said her rings, necklace, diamond earrings, bracelet, bangles, watches and a few other things were missing from her bedroom and dressing room, and the total worth of all the items is more than Rs 15 crore.
The Khar police have filed the complaint under Sections 379 (theft) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code.
'False and frivolous'
Through his lawyer Zulfiquar Memon, Jaidev said, "This is nothing but another pathetic attempt on Poonam's part to further harass me, my family and my domestic staff with a false and frivolous complaint."
He added, "She had filed a false complaint at Khar police station and then another complaint with the Crime Branch. In both these offices, my domestic staff and I have recorded our statements and have fully co-operated with the investigation. We have nothing to fear. I am presently holidaying with my children and we will attend to this as soon as I am back. I will not be surprised if she files more such frivolous complaints, only with a view to harassing me and my family."
