Government moots 40% hike for material component for MNREGA

JAIPUR: Rajasthan government has decided to hike the material component of the MNREGA works sanctioned at the district level to 40%.
Currently, the labour-material component of MNREGA at the district level is in the ratio of 70:30 while the same in the panchayat level is 60:40 ratios. At a meeting of the panchayati raj and rural development department officials held with the chief secretary recently, it was decided to hike the material component to 40% to maintain the quality of the works carried out.
The works costing above Rs 50 lakh is sanctioned at the district level.According to sources, the decision was taken to undertake works of permanent nature with an eye quality up gradation. The reduction in the material component has been a problem to carry out quality works at the district level.
A similar step taken by the Madhya Pradesh government has been a success in creating rural infrastructure under MNREGA instead of carrying out soil works.
