AHMEDABAD: A total of 20 railway projects worth Rs 17,073 crore are currently in progress in Gujarat, Rajen Gohain, minister of state for railways, told the Upper House in reply to a question by of Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathwani.
The projects include three new lines at an estimated cost of Rs 4,028 crore, gauge conversion of eight lines at a cost of Rs6,568 crore and doubling of nine lines at a cost of Rs 6,477 crore.
According to the minister, the main projects of gauge conversions in progress are Ahmedabad-Botad (170.48 km), Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Udaipur (299.2 km), Ahmedabad-Mehsana (68.78 km) and Bhildi-Viramgam (157 km).
The work for laying the three new railway lines - Bhimnath-Dholera (24 km), Chhota Udepur-Dhar (157 km) and Dahod-Indore via Sardarpur, Jhabua and Dhar (200.97 km) - are also in progress, Gohain said.
The minister stated that every railway project requires a number of clearances from various ministries and departments of states and the central government and the progress of the project depends on clearance from these agencies.
