Ex-student sent 'Veena' Gayathri threat letter, held

Police on Thursday arrested a former music student of the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University for ransacking and sending a threat letter to vice-chancellor 'Veena' E Gayathri on July 24.

CHENNAI: Police on Thursday arrested a former music student of the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University for ransacking and sending a threat letter to vice-chancellor 'Veena' E Gayathri on July 24.
Inquiries revealed that the threat letter was written either by a former student or a former employee of the university.
Six police teams headed by Mylapore deputy commissioner of police V Balakrishnan traced the suspect who was identified as R Barani Kumar, 25.
During questioning, he admitted to having written the threat letter and ransacked the vice-chancellor's office. Barani Kumar, a degree student in Thavil during 2010 and 2013, was dismissed from the college for his irregularities.
