Fireman commits suicide

July 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A fireman attached with the Gowliguda fire station committed suicide at his friend’s room on Thursday. Ch. Shiva Reddy, a native of Sadasivpet in Medak district, was found hanging, by his friend after the latter returned home from work at about 7.45 p.m. Fire department officials were informed about the incident on Friday morning.

“We came to know that he took his life on Friday at 10 a.m. Shiva was on leave for three days and was supposed to rejoin duty on Thursday, but he did not turn up for work.

“He was staying with his friend near Gowliguda, but later shifted to a hostel near RTC cross roads,” said a senior official from the Fire department. He added that the deceased had joined service in 2013.

The official also said that Shiva had recently failed a physical test in the stage one exam to become a ‘one start’ ranked officer, and was also set to get engaged in a month from now.

“We have also learnt that he was not really happy with the engagement. He was also suffering from some health issue, and was taking medicines for that,” he added.

Shiva’s body was sent to the Gandhi hospital for post-mortem. His parents and relatives had come to take his body.

The deceased is survived by his parents and three older sisters, who are all married, said the official.
