Sheena murder: Khanna denied bail

Mumbai: A special CBI court on Friday rejected the bail plea of 2012 Sheena Bora murder accused Sanjeev Khanna. Special judge HS Mahajan rejected the plea in the light of the statements of the victim’s fiancé Rahul Mukerjea, who had allegedly last seen her in the company of Khanna, Sheena’s mother and co-accused Indrani Mukerjea and accused-turned-prosecution witness Shyamvar Rai.
The court also took into consideration Rai’s statement in which he had described Khanna’s complicity in the murder on April 24, 2012 and disposal of body a day later.
The prosecution in its arguments on Tuesday opposed Khanna’s bail plea and questioned his motive for being in the city at the time of the incident on April 24, 2012. The investigating agency alleged that Khanna was involved in the murder to ensure that his biological daughter with Indrani, Vidhie would inherit all the property. However, the defence argued that Khanna was in town at Indrani’s behest and had decided to leave after realising that Vidhie was not in the city. The prosecution also refuted that evidence put Khanna in two places at the same time. Calling the accused “spiderman” the prosecution said that he swiftly moved from one place to another.
