MANILA, Philippines – To kick-off, LAPIS rolled out for free streaming and download the Mag-alay sa Bayan 2016 public interest music album. These are songs inspired by issues, situations, and struggles of the Filipino people. These can be accessed through are social media sites. They are currently available at the music sharing site Soundcloud.com.

And to cap opm week this last week of July, we are having Mulat: Pag-aalay ng Musika para sa Bayan at the 70’s Bistro, Anonas, Quezon City on July 30, 2016 featuring Tubaw, Jana Garcia, Datu’s Tribe, and the Tres Marias – Cooky Chua, Bayang Barrios, and Lolita Carbon together with Naliyagan.

Mulat, a collaboration with the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM), concludes the weeklong celebration with public interest musicians. Tubaw, a music collective led by Davaoeño singer-songwriter Edge Uyanguren sings about hope and aspirations of the people of Mindanao in their recently launched Paragas album. Jana Garcia, singer-songwriter and vocal coach has also just launched her album Ang Simula. Datu’s Tribe, an alternative rock band in the Philippines since the 1990s has always put social commentary at the fore of the songs they write and perform.

Tres Marias’ Lolita Carbon, also of folk band Asin, is a prolific composer. Two of the Tres Marias –Bayang Barrios and Cooky Chua of Color It Red, had a recent collaboration with The Benjamins bagging 2nd runner-up for the PhilPop 2016 song entry Tinatangi. Bayang also had a recent historic moment as she sang the National Anthem at President Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address.

Through these initiatives LAPIS seek to encourage our fellow composers and musicians to utilize their skill in inspiring people to struggle and act for the good of the country.
