Seven new MLCs take oath
PATNA: Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh on Friday administered the oath to the seven newly-elected members of the Upper House on the first day of the monsoon session. Their tenure will end on July 22, 2022. The newly-elected MLCs are Arjun Sahni, Vinod Narain Jha (BJP), Mohd Kamar-e-Alam, Ranvijay Kumar (RJD), Ghulam Rasul and CP Sinha (JDU) and Tanvir Akhtar (Congress).
Both the BJP members took oath in Maithili language.
The Chairman, in his inaugural brief speech, said: “During the five days of monsoon session, I hope members of the House will raise issues related to public interest.” He also said in the recently concluded panchayat polls in the state, at least 75% of the elected representatives were first-timers. He also hailed CM Nitish Kumar for making Bihar a liquor-free state which has brought a ‘social revolution’.
Presiding officers: The Chairman also announced the names of four presiding officers for the ongoing session. They are Nawal K Yadav, Ram Lakhan Ram Raman, Kedar Nath Pandey and Devesh Chandra Thakur.
The Chairman also condoled the death of several eminent personalities, including Mahasweta Devi and Lachchu Maharaj. The House also observed one-minute silence to mark respect to the departed soul.
