Regan King: All Black centre says Jersey can make Championship semi-finals

Jersey's former New Zealand international centre Regan King says the island side is capable of making the Championship play-offs.

The former Clermont Auvergne centre moved to St Peter this summer after two years with Pro12 side Scarlets.

"I can see them building something special," the 35-year-old said.

"They were only two wins away from the semi-finals, so hopefully I can add a little bit of something and we can get there," he added to BBC Jersey.

King was one of 14 new players brought in by head coach Harvey Biljon as the island side look to build on last season, when the club had a best-ever finish of sixth place in the Championship.

"They've done a bit of recruiting this year, hopefully the players they've recruited can add that little bit extra for the greater good of the team," added King, who won his sole All Blacks cap against Wales in November 2002.

"I guess it's about taking it week by week, but if we're realistic we want to be pushing for a semi-final at the very least.

"We're hungry, we've worked hard and I believe we've got the personnel to do well this year."

And King says he will not be distracted by the holiday island's many tourist attractions and sandy beaches.

"It's not the biggest place in the word, but what I've needed to see I've seen," he added.

"For me, at this stage of my career, it's all about recovery, so I'll come to training, put in as much as I can and then when I've got down time I really do take down time, I won't extend myself in areas that I don't need to."
