Bank Bandh in Marathwada

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Jul 29 (UNI) As a part of nationwide one day token strike, business and other commercial activities was badly affected in the entire Marathwada region comprising eight district,
as employees of all ahe public sectors banks, governments foreign and old generation private banks observed a strike.
Under the banner of UFBU's nine unions members of the NOBW, NOBO, AIBEA, AIBOA, INBEC, INBOC, BEFI,INBEF and NCBE are participated in the strike.
About 20,000 to 25,000 bank employees including 3,000 in Aurangbad compring 600 hundred bank branches in the region today participated in the token strike to protest against the government's proposed move to privatise the public sector banks.
In Aurangabad, all the employees under the banner of UFBU Gathered here this morning in front of Bank of India at Jalna road and demonstrated against the government move. They also raised slogans against the NDA-Led government move for privatising and mergers associates banks into SBI.
Addressing to the employees UFBU member Com. Devidas Tuljapurkar claimed that the strike was near total and 80,000 banks comprising public sectors, private and foreign banks participated in the nationwide strike.
In Marathwada region busineess of Rs 10,000 crore has been affected.
The demands include dropping of the proposal to amend Trade Union laws, reduce government's shareholding in IDBI Bank to less than 51 per cent, implement recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance related to recovery of Non-Performing Assets, publication of names of 30 big defaulters in
each bank and enacting stringent laws for recovery of NPAs.
He also demanded a public statement from the government and an announcement from parliament that public sector banks will not be privatised and the government shareholding will not go down below 51 per cent.
AIBA AND AIBOA will meet on August 4 and 5 in Hyderabad and after that they will organize a meet with UFBU for deciding a future of action in this regards, Mr Tuljapurkar further said.
