A memorial dedicated to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will be inaugurated at INA Dilli Haat on Saturday.
Delhi Tourism and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra tweeted on Thursday: “He left us all a year back, but is back in Delhi forever now,” along with an invite of the inauguration event.”
The memorial, to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will display Mr. Kalam’s personal belongings like his books and musical instruments. Mr. Mishra had met the former President’s family in Rameswaram to bring back his belongings, including is books, veena and spectacles.
After Mr. Kalam’s death in July last year, the Central government had sent his personal possessions from his residence at 10 Rajaji Marg in Delhi to his family home in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu. The belongings were then brought back from Rameswaram by the Delhi government and kept inside the Delhi Assembly. The memorial will also include a permanent exhibition on Mr. Kalam, where his books will be displayed and used for research and other purposes.
. After the inauguration of the memorial on Saturday, anyone visiting Dilli Haat will be able to visit the memorial as well.
