80-year-old in Winnebago leads police on 80 mph chase

DELPHI, Ind. — An 80-year-old man led police on a two-county chase Thursday in Indiana, reaching speeds of 80 mph in his Winnebago motor home, authorities say.

According to Carroll County Sheriff's Office, a woman called deputies to her Carroll County home at about 4:10 p.m., reporting that Rolla Samson, 80, of Danville, Ill., was battering her She called back as deputies were getting close to the scene to report that Samson the man had taken off in a motorhome.

Deputies chased the motorhome, and along the way, Samson tried to run motorists and deputies off the road, according to the sheriff's office.

In White County, north of Lafayette, police deployed stop sticks and the front left tire on Samson's motorhome began to go flat, according to Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

Samson stopped the chase, and deputies arrested him, according to Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

He faces preliminary charges of domestic battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement and battery on law enforcement.

He was booked into the Carroll County Jail, and his bond is set at $50,000, according to the sheriff's office.
