“Lahat kaya niya isakripisyo para sa amin. Sobra siyang magmahal. Lagi niya akong binabantayan sa daan kapag ginagabi ako. Tuwang-tuwa sya kapag may uwi akong chocolate at biscuit sa kanya tulad ng lagi niyang inuuwi sa akin noong bata pa ako. Ayokong mawala siya.

[She can sacrifice everything for us. She loved so much. She always looks after me on the street whenever I come home late at night. She’s just happy whenever I bring home chocolate and biscuit to her just like what she brings when we’re still young. I don’t want to lose her.], Gini said in an interview with Manila Bulletin.

Gini’s 47-year-old mom, Emma, was a Grade 2 teachers at the Carlos S. Batino Sr. Memorial Elementary in 2013. But, she was diagnosed to have an ovarian cyst. Although doctors have prescribed medicine for her condition, she was still advised to undergo an operation before things get worse.

But Emma refused to get operated knowing that they can’t pay the bills as, during that time, the family’s only source of income was her salary being a teacher while her husband works as a construction worker. Another thing that burdened the family is that one of their five children has epilepsy and needs to have continuous medication.

Because of this, Genesis “Gini” Aala, being the eldest child, volunteered to stop studying but was stopped by her mother.

When they found out that the cyst on Emma became smaller, she stopped her medication and allotted the family’s income to sustain the education of her children as well as to continue the medication of her epileptic child.

The family thought that the cyst on Emma was already gone, just last week, she was rushed to the Korea-Philippines Friendship Hospital in Trece Martires City, Cavite due to the continuous period for about three weeks – which is actually due to her condition.

Genesis “Gini” Aala asked for help from people since her mother’s operation would cost P100,000.

Now, Gini would be selling her artworks to help mother financially. According to her, her artworks for sale have been from her collection since May 2015.

“Ang mga ito po ay mga naipon ko po na paintings simula po May 2015. Binibenta ko po ang mga ito para po madagdagan ang fund para sa pang papaopera ng Nanay ko.”
