Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner in Southern India V. Krishnamoorthy underlined the need for each and everyone to have the opportunity to know the culture, language and style of neighbouring nations to foster friendship and understanding.

“Any country will have some issues with neighbouring countries. Such issues can be overcome through friendship and understanding,” he said at a programme held at Auxilium College on Thursday. A team of Sri Lankan students are on a visit to various parts of Tamil Nadu as part of India-Sri Lanka Youth Exchange 2016 from July 22. They visited a number of institutions in Vellore on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Krishnamoorthy hoped that this visit would have helped the Sri Lankan delegation to gain some understanding about India.

Referring to the UN General Assembly resolution on sustainable goals last year, he stated that it was an important job to sustain what has been achieved in this challenging world. He added that everyone strives to struggle to sustain whatever achievement they have made. “Each and everyone need to study and continue to practice your knowledge and talent to work in a creative manner. This will help in developing humanitarian services and good standard of living to make this world a peaceful one,” he added.

He said that such exchanges would help in strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.

The Sri Lankan delegation is in Tamil Nadu from July 22. After visiting Chennai, they visited Krishnagiri where they studied the self-help groups system. In Vellore, they visited Christian Medical College and Academy of Prisons and Correctional Administration, according to Dinesh Gajendran of Audacious Dreams Foundation. He added that an Indian delegation would visit Sri Lanka during September.

Among others, Sr. Eugini Fathima Mary, principal of Auxilium College was present.
