Ensure win in local body polls: Jaya to party workers

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary and chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday exhorted party workers to work for a massive win in the forthcoming local body elections in the state. The polls are scheduled for October.
Addressing a ceremony to welcome more than 30,000 workers from other parties in the city, the AIADMK supremo recalled developmental work carried out by her government."You know several of my government's immense welfare schemes for the people. You have to take it to the masses from now on," Jayalalithaa said adding that her party is "truly democratic".
A statement from party headquarters said workers and functionaries from DMK, Congress, DMDK, VCK and the Left extended their "heartfelt gratitude for accommodating them with a motherly heart".
According to the release, a town panchayat chairman and vice-chairman, two panchayat union members, nine municipal ward members, eight town panchayat ward members, and 12 panchayat presidents have joined the party. At least 3,500 women also enrolled themselves with the AIADMK.
