The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday ordered counting of votes cast in elections of the Ladwa civic body on July 4. However, the division bench headed by Justice AK Mittal ordered that in case the margin of winners is more than two votes, then the elections results could be announced. If the margin of votes for the winner is two or less than two votes, then the result should be submitted before the High Court on the next date of hearing in the first week of August.

The petitioners, Sumit Bansal and Mandeep Singh, have sought directions to not allow Kurukshetra BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini and Ladwa BJP MLA Pawan Saini to cast vote in elections of Ladwa Municipal Committee. The petitioners have alleged that the ruling party is allowing MPs and MLAs to caste their respective votes for the election of president and vice-president in municipal committee elections for their personal political gains.

The petitioners have also submitted that both Kurukshetra MP and Ladwa MLA are not elected members of the municipal committee.
