For Sasha Gabriel Diez and Raihan Pratama Mauldi, the ongoing academic year in school is an exciting one.

Sasha, who is from Argentina and Raihan, from Indonesia, are on a scholarship exchange programme in Chennai at MCC School as a part of the AFS Intercultural programmes.

AFS, a community-based volunteer organisation, conducts international student exchange programmes with a view to helping participants develop the skills and understanding towards creating a peaceful world.

“The students are enjoying their experience at school as well as with their host families. The students of our school too are happy having them in their classrooms,” said Christiana Rathnavathy, an English teacher from the school. The duo, who is in Class 11, has also signed up to learn silambam and the tabla, and are learning Tamil as well.

While the school has previously hosted foreign students, this is the first time that the AFS is partnering with Indonesia and Argentina as a part of the exchange programme.
