Both bills were checked by a store employee for authenticity at the time, police said. After the bills were taken to a local bank, they were determined to be counterfeit.

There has been an increase in counterfeit $100 bills passed in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs in recent weeks, according to the release.

Anyone who recognizes either man, or who has information on the case, is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 719-208-1380.
