SINGAPORE — The Urban Wheels Challenge, a cycling competition with a challenging course designed to mimic the outdoor terrain, but in an urban setting, is returning for a second year at *SCAPE from Sept 17-18.
Organised by Mediacorp’s OOH Media, the event will see novice mountain bikers traversing around *SCAPE, riding down the building’s escalators and stairs, in addition to various challenges such as rollers and table tops.
The challenge begins on Level 5 of *SCAPE and ends with a thrilling one-metre drop at the end of the challenge circuit at Playspace.
This year’s Urban Wheels Challenge will feature seven categories: Junior Under-12 (7–12 years old); Junior (13-16 years); Youth (17-21 years); Fat Bike (18 years and above); Rookie (21 years and above); Open (22–35 years) and Masters (36 years and above).
Organisers are expecting up to 200 participants and more than 3,000 spectators at the two-day event.
While participants take on the challenging race routes, spectators can also enjoy a range of family-friendly fringe activities at the Urban Wheels Village. These include product demonstrations, celebrity meet-and-greets and open bicycle try-outs for the public to try unique bicycles.
A series of complementary clinics on biking skills, technical workshops on basic bike maintenance and tuning, and sports injury prevention talks will also be conducted on Saturdays from August 13-27.
Registration for the event (S$65 per entry) has started, and will end on Aug 10. There is also an early-bird promotion (S$58.50), which will end this Sunday.
