Chief Minister Harish Rawat announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh each to NCC cadets Puja and Nutan, who have climbed Mount Everest. He made the announcement after inaugurating the newly constructed building of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) headquarters at Nanurkhera here today.
Rawat, while addressing the cadets, said the state government would assist in the construction of a training ground at the headquarters and also furnish the newly constructed dormitory. “Now, NCC cadets will get two times travel allowance and mess allowance as given by the Central Government. The state government will provide uniform to cadets once a year. Allowances of senior and junior division officials will be revised after analysing the practices in other states,” he added.
The Chief Minister said the NCC helps to instil discipline in youths. “The NCC that inculcates in the youth the motto of unity and discipline is the greatest cohesive force of the country. It brings together the youth from different parts of the county and encourages them to have a secular and disciplined outlook,” he added.
He said the state government would consider engaging the NCC with disaster management, police, forest and other departments to use its manpower and capability in state welfare and humanitarian missions.
