The Patna High Court today cancelled BJP leader Chhedi Paswan’s Lok Sabha membership from Sasaram in Bihar for concealing criminal charges in his election affidavit.

In 2014 General Election, Paswan had defeated former Lok Sabha Speaker and Congress leader Mira Kumar from Sasaram. After the Bench cancelled his membership, Paswan said: “I respect the court’s verdict, and I would challenge it. There is no criminal charge that I had concealed in affidavit. Whatever the charge I was facing is in connection with public interest litigation rather than criminal charges.”

Paswan was a minister in the RJD government between 2000 and 2004. Later, he left the RJD and joined the JD-U and remained minister in the Nitish government between 2008 and 2010. Finally, he joined the BJP in 2014 and was elected as Lok Sabha MP from Sasaram.
