AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Police crime branch on Thursday formed different teams headed by assistant commissioner of police CN Rajput to probe extortion complaint against dissident BJP MLA Nalin Kotadiya. Crime branch sources said a complaint was lodged by a local builder alleging that Kotadiya assaulted him for extortion of Rs 2 crore. The complaint was transferred to city crime branch on Wednesday evening.
Senior crime branch officials said they are at present examining the video footage and the audio clips and also studying the case papers.
“Very soon we will be summoning Kotadiya for recording his statements with regard to the allegations levelled by builder Madhu Vasani,” added a senior crime branch official.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, crime branch Rahul Patel said action will only be taken after proper examination of evidence.
However Kotadiya an MLA from Dhari in Amreli district claimed that he was being falsely framed because of his support to the Patel quota agitation.
In his complaint with the Vastrapur police station, Vasani alleged that Kotadiya came to his office on Wednesday evening and demanded Rs 2 crore for having written a letter to the authortities one and a half years ago to facilitate a construction permission for Vasani.
“However the builder has alleged that when he refused to pay the money, Kotadiya and his men thrashed him” said a crime branch official.
The incident has been captured in the CCTV camera installed at Vasani’s office in Vastrapur said a crime branch official.
It is worthy to note that Kotadiya who has often critized the BJP government, particularly on the Patel quota issue, has alleged that it was Vasani who at the behest of some political leaders offered him Rs 20 crore for withdrawing his support to the Patel quota stir.
