PUTRAJAYA: Filipino police have agreed to set up a forward base in southern Philippines to help curb cross-border crimes including abductions for ransom, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

"They will set up a forward base in their waters, just like we have done in our waters, and we will communicate and share intelligence," he said during a press conference after closing the 36th Asean Chiefs of Police (Aseanapol) conference at the Putrajaya Mariott hotel here Thursday.
