Noida: The 400-metre stretch from Sandeep Paper Mills till Harola Chowk in Noida's Sector 5 remained closed for traffic on Wednesday after a part of the road caved in on Tuesday following heavy showers. It seriously affected vehicular movement to sectors 2, 3, 5 and beyond via the arterial Udyog Marg.
Soumya Shrivastava, Deputy CEO, Noida Authority, told TOI that officials have been directed to finish the piling work on the road and make it available for vehicles within the next 48 hours.

The road, which caved in on Tuesday, abuts a drain running parallel to it. On the other side there is an underground parking lot of the Noida Authority under construction. To enable vehicular movement on the road, the traffic police temporarily suspended the one-way rule being implemented on Udyog Marg and the stretch from Sandeep Paper Mills to Harola Chowk was completely closed for commuters. Congestion was witnessed on Udyog Marg as people used it both ways - for coming from and going towards Sector 15.
Owing to the cave-in, water from the drain abutting the road has been diverted towards the middle of the road. On Wednesday filth and garbage could be seen piled up on the entire stretch of the road as workers tried to ensure unrestricted flow of water so that it doesn't enter the area where the parking lot construction is under way.
"The road abuts the drain, which is adjacent to the plot for the upcoming underground parking lot. Rain has made matters worse and resulted in the road caving in," said a shopkeeper in the area.
