Cremation of sacrilege accused denied in village
Sacrilege case accused Balwinder Kaur being cremated by family member.

Ludhiana: With villagers refusing permission for her last rites in her native Kawadhi village, Balwinder Kaur -- who was accused of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and shot dead on Tuesday morning -- was cremated after a post-mortem examination at the ground near grain market, Gill Road, on Wednesday morning.
"Police and family of Kaur had come to take permission from us for the cremation, but we refused as it could create tension in the village.
Though villagers had excommunicated her after she was booked for the desecration, her two sons, Ranjodh Singh and Ranjeet Singh, still lived in the village," said sarpanch Jagdeep Singh Gill. He said villagers were angry with Kaur and they didn't want to take a chance. No one from the village attended the cremation.
Dehlon police station SHO inspector Amandeep Singh Brar said, "The cremation was not done in her village to avoid any untoward incident. She was not living in the village ever since she was booked. Her daughter lived in Dugri and sister in Shimlapuri of Ludhiana."
Balwinder Kaur, 45, was booked in Kawadhi village on October 19 last year and was on bail. She was called by two men outside Gurdwara Alamgir on Tuesday on the pretext of sorting out the matter related to her case and shot dead.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, the body was brought to Ludhiana civil hospital, where the bullet was removed. One of the doctors from the team said the bullet, after piercing the heart was stuck near her backbone, from where it was extracted after locating its position through an x-ray.
