This was the first really heavy spell of rain that the city has received in the last two weeks. In all, the city received an average of 12.5 mm of rainfall from 6 am. However, at many places especially towards the south of the city, little rain fell but the skies remained overcast.
At Jashodanagar, the lining of Kharicut canal sprang a breach and a concrete slab laid across the canal was damaged, making the position of the slab - over which vehicles pass every day - somewhat shaky.
The East Zone received the most rainfall, 21.01mm, followed by the New West Zone (17 mm), Central Zone (15 mm) and West Zone (9.89 mm).
The state has till 8 am on Wednesday received 215 mm of rain, which is 27% of the annual average of 797 mm.
Officials said that by July 27, the state received 433 mm of rain in 2010, 258 mm in 2011, 157.7 mm in 2012, 556 mm in 2013, 252mm in 2014 and 331 mm in 2015.
According to the revenue control room, this year, Kutch has received the least rainfall, just 4.77% of its annual rainfall of 392 mm. North Gujarat has received only 125 mm against its annual rainfall of 653 mm. The state has on average received 25.04 mm of rains on Tuesday. North Gujarat has received 25.68% rains of its annual rainfall of 674 mm. Central Gujarat has received 194 mm of its annual 795 mm quota.
Of the 250 talukas in the state, 17 takukas have received less than 50 mm of rain. Thirteen talukas have received more than 500 mm, till 8 am on Wednesday.
