CHENNAI: The city and its outskirts are likely to get scattered rain until Saturday in the afternoons and towards evenings, weathermen have predicted. The sky will remain cloudy keeping the temperature under check. A trough extending from Vidarbha in Maharashtra through Rayalseema in Andhra Pradesh to interior Tamil Nadu will ensure rainfall in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu for the next three days.
Skymet chief meteorologist Mahesh Palawat said, "The trough in the interior is part of the state will move toward the coastal parts by Thursday. This will increase chances of rainfall in Chennai in the range of 10-15mm."
The Met office has predicted heavy rainfall in some of the state's interior districts. Karur recorded 49mm rainfall and Madurai 40mm on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Hosur recorded 140mm rainfall, Aruppukottai 90mm and Madurai 70mm.
Former deputy director general at the regional meteorological centre Y E A Raj said, "Rainfall may not necessarily occur in the heart of the city. Dynamic models show possibility of thunderstorm rainfall in north-west Chennai within a 40-50km range." The sea breeze set in as early at 10.30am on Wednesday. "The sea breeze can also cause clouding and keep the temperature low." The maximum temperature on Wednesday was 33.9 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature over the next three days is predicted to be around 34 degrees Celsius.
