Vadodara: Owners of Shree Mukt Jewellers were booked for cheating by the Gotri police on Tuesday night.
The complainant Alpa Khutwad said that she had sold 120 grams of gold and 5,445 kg silverware to them for Rs 5.67 lakh to the owners on March 31. The showroom management issued post-dated cheques in April. However, the cheques bounced.
When Khutwad called up the owners, they told her that Gopal Soni, who is one of the accused, had died.
They promised her the money but never paid.
Khutwad then approached the Gotri police and filed an FIR against late Gopal Soni, Harsh Soni, who is director of Shree Mukt Jewellers and Divyang Soni.
The police have also received five similar applications from different persons against Shree Mukt Jewellers that has now closed down.
"We are investigating all the cases. We tried to question the accused but they were not found at their home. Our first move will be to get their passport seized through legal means so that they don't try to flee the country. We will begin gathering details of the accused's bank account," said R K Rajput, Gotri police sub-inspector .
