Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi, a Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer of 1987 batch, took over as chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday. His appointment fills the post that had been lying vacant for over one-and-a-half years.
First day
On his first day in office, the Chairman emphasised the need for improving the quality of education in schools across the country.
Mr. Chaturvedi called for ample thrust upon teacher quality to sustain improvement in the standard of education.
“One of the foremost priorities will be to make the CBSE a modern and multidimensional front-ranking organisation,” he said.
Mr. Chaturvedi has been appointed for a five-year term by the Prime Minister-led Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
The name of Sarvendra Vikram Bahadur Singh, chosen by former Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, had earlier been rejected for the post by the Department of Personnel and Training.
