AWOL cop killed in buy-bust ops in Manila

A policeman marked absent without leave (AWOL) died in a drug buy bust-operation in Sampaloc, Manila on Wednesday night, a report on Unang Balita on Thursday said.

The suspect, identified as Antonio Capule, reportedly engaged fellow policemen in a gunfight on Cristobal Street past 10 p.m.

The District Anti-Illegal Drugs (DAID) of the Manila Police District (MPD) did not mention where Capule reports, but said he has been under surveillance for some time due to suspected drug pushing.

Recovered from Capule's rented house were eight sachets of alleged shabu, a .38-caliber revolver, two live ammunition, and four empty shells.

Capule had five gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Authorities said the suspect is involved in illegal drugs along with another AWOL policeman, Rodolfo Santos.

Santos was already arrested by MPD Station 4 policemen earlier this week. —KG, GMA News
