A three-year-old boy from Nangloi was allegedly murdered by a neighbour who had abducted him for ransom.
The child’s decomposed body was found on Wednesday, two days after he went missing. His neighbour Man Singh, who had allegedly dumped the body there after throttling the boy, has been arrested. Man Singh had even joined the boy’s family in their search for him.
The incident was reported from a colony in Nangloi.
The police said that the accused was arrested after locals reported seeing the toddler walk with him to his home.
The family told the police that their younger son, Mayank, had gone missing from their house on lane number 3 on Monday afternoon while he was playing outside. His parents approached the police after looking for him till late in the evening. A police team probing the matter were told by locals that they had seen Mayank walk with Man Singh towards his house.
Man Singh was then picked up for questioning, said the police. “After luring the child with the promise of sweets, he took Mayank to his house, locked him up and tried calling his father for ransom. However, Mayank started crying and calling for help. Man Singh tried to gag Mayank, but in the process he throttled him,” said a police officer.
