: A gang of robbers, who had allegedly kidnapped, thrashed and robbed a Station House Officer (SHO) of Gurgaon, have been arrested by the Delhi Police.

Three of the robbers opened fire on the police upon being intercepted in West Delhi’s Nangloi on Monday. However, bullet-proof vests helped save the life of an inspector, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP (Special Cell). Three illegal firearms, and fake driving licenses, Aadhaar cards and voter ID cards have been recovered from them.

Earlier on Saturday, the Gurgaon police had arrested Khalid, one of the suspects involved in the SHO’s abduction. A brief shootout had led to Khalid’s arrest, while his accomplice Aabid had managed to escape.

The arrested persons are allegedly involved in over 50 cases of heinous crimes, such as kidnapping and murder. The gang leader, Islamuddin, was wanted by the police of five States, and was carrying an overall reward of Rs 1.7 lakh on his head. In the past, the gang is alleged to have fired on police teams on several occasions and have even pelted stones on police vehicles when cornered.

Prey on mind

The most recent involvement of this gang was on June 30 when they targeted the SHO of the Sector 29 police station in Gurgaon.

“They beat him mercilessly, robbed him of his Swift car, cash, and ATM card before dumping him in Mathura,” said the DCP.
