Suspended officers on the Crime Branch radar
The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch have summoned the two Nerul cops who were suspended over their failure to address the threats made to the family of 16-year-old Swapnil Sonawane, a day before he was murdered. On July 19, the teen was killed for allegedly having an affair with a girl from an ‘upper caste’.

Police officials told Mirror that the two cops, who had been identified as Assistant Inspector Yogesh Mane and Sub-Inspector Sonali Rajguru, had been summoned for their statements to be recorded.

The source added, “We are consulting our government pleader and trying to see if a case can be registered as per the law. Action will be taken accordingly.”

A few days ago, Swapnil’s parents had written to several authorities including the commissioner of police demanding for a case to be booked against the two officers who had ignored their request to register a complaint regarding the threats they had received from the girl’s relatives before their son was killed.

Instead of assuring the shaken family, the two officers allegedly warned the boy’s parents that their son should stay away from the girl else blood would be spilled like in the Marathi movie, Sairat.
